Sustainable aviation fuel
Have you heard of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a key player in decarbonizing aviation? Join the community that ramps up the use of SAF and accelerates aviation’s decarbonization initiatives!
Aviation is considered a highly polluting industry. Under EU regulation, aviation fuel suppliers must include a minimum share of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), starting with 2% in 2025 and gradually increasing to 70% by 2050.
There are many types of SAF recognised by the EU, CORSIA and the aviation community. airBaltic aligns with the definition of SAF in the ReFuelEU (2023/2405) regulation and RED II (2018/2001) directive, which defines SAF as:
- Synthetic aviation fuels, i.e. renewable fuels of non-biological origin (other than biomass) with at least 70% greenhouse gas savings;
- Aviation biofuels produced from non-food feedstock such as used cooking oil, animal fats, algae, manure, straw, the biomass fraction of municipal waste, etc.
- Recycled carbon aviation fuels produced from waste materials unsuitable for material recovery or from waste processing gas with at least 70% greenhouse gas savings.
Terms and conditions
- SAF can be purchased at the time of booking on airBaltic.com (2%, 10%, 50% or 100% options) or added later by contacting us (fixed price per class of compartment).
- SAF fees are non-refundable, non-changeable to another flight or passenger, and non-transferable to another booking. Note! If the flight refund option is selected during flight irregularity (flight is cancelled or lost connection), the fee will be refunded together with all other payments.
